In 1941 Isabel was invited by the Rural Construction group under theNational Christian Council Rural Cooperative Project under T. S Sun to carry out a house to house-to-house survey in a rural village in Sichuan. Isabel has since published ‘Prosperity’s Predicament: Identity, Reform, and Resistance in Rural Wartime China’. The book is a fascinating and detailed account of life in Bishan China during this time: -banditry, opium, press ganging and war.
This clip aims to show Isabel talking about some of the issues raised in her latest book and shows a brief account of China in 1941.
